RS Sodhi, managing director of GCMMF, which markets milk and dairy products under the Amul brand name, said the price hike is being done after almost a year and seven months, which was necessitated due to increase in cost of production. . “The price of Amul milk wil increased by Rs 2 per liter across India from tomorrow. The new prices will be applicable on all Amul milk brands such as Sona, Taza, Shakti, T-Special, as well as cow and buffalo milk.
Sodhi said the hike in milk prices had become necessary due to rising food inflation. Apart from this, the cost of packaging has increased by 30 to 40 percent, transportation cost by 30 percent and energy cost by 30 percent, due to which the cost of production has increased, he said.

Amul has recently started micro ATM for dairy farmers in Rajkot village of Gujarat. Here Anandpar, a small village with a population of about 4000 people, buys about 2,000 liters of milk per day.
