Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has questioned the need to pass legislation like the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which has brought many states to a standstill and saw Delhi as a violent protest on Sunday.
Speaking on the Agenda Aaj Tak 2019, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, I want to ask what was the need for such a bill at this time. There is such widespread unemployment and inflation in the country, and people are crying out about jobs and goods being expensive. These significant problems need to be seen instead of this kind of issue. The state and its leaders, political parties, need to come together to discuss the economic recession rather than fighting on this issue. There was no need to consider the Citizenship Act.
What says on JAMIA VIOLENCE?
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief then expressed concern over the tense situation that prevailed in Delhi on Sunday. When Jamia University students clashed with Delhi Police personnel, and they later entered the university.
Kejriwal said I am very concerned about the situation in Delhi. I spoke to LG and asked Amit Shah to take the time to discuss all the measures that all of us need to bring peace to Delhi.
In a nation, we should keep in mind why our students are not on the streets. Students of 22 universities are protesting. Our future generations are fighting. We need to listen to them. They are the future.
Speaking about the incidents of buses being vandalized and set on fire by protesters, Arvind Kejriwal said, “I condemn the violence. We should watch the CCTV footage to find out who lit the buses and then take action against the culprits.
On Delhi Election
After the assembly elections in Delhi, where the AAP government would conduct its first test after five years, Kejriwal was very confident about coming back to power with a mandate.
The AAP is upset with the BJP allegations that the ruling party has not done any work in 4 years and is doing everything right in the final year, Kejriwal said, People are happy in Delhi, and it doesn’t matter what the BJP says.
Kejriwal say that there is not a single resident in Delhi who has not been touched by the AAP government in any way. Whether it is with electricity, government schools, or water supply, we have managed to reach the opposition. Even BJP, Congress supporters come to our street meetings to tell us about our works. We have also earned their blessings.
Why he has stopped talking about PM Modi in the last one year, Kejriwal quipped, What to say to me, he looks terrible, is the main little man. I was given the mandate to work for Delhi. I will be ready to do so.
He said that the AAP government had earned the respect of its critics and opposition in five years, and this is the most significant achievement of his government.
