Coal Crisis : In the meeting, the Energy and Coal Ministers informed Home Minister Amit Shah about the power generation capacity and coal mining in the country. In this meeting, chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi and Energy Minister RK Singh, many senior NTPC officials also attended. This meeting lasted for about one and a half hours. After the talk of power crisis and coal shortage came to light across the country, Home Minister Amit Shah called an ’emergency meeting’ to discuss the issue. In the meeting, the officials provided information about the current situation and coal reserves in the country to the Home Minister.

The meeting comes at a time when the states of Delhi, Punjab and Chhattisgarh have warned of power shortage in the wake of severe coal shortage, but the Coal Ministry has insisted that the country needs to meet the demand of power generation plants. There is enough coal available and there is no fear of disruption in power supply.

The ministry has ruled out any possibility of a power crisis.

However, in the meantime, news of the closure of 13 thermal power plants in the country has also come to the fore. All these plants are located in Maharashtra. Due to the closure of the thermal plant, there is a shortage of 3,330 MW in Maharashtra.
