FIR registered against social media users in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a case against various people for defying government orders on the use of social media. The Union Territory Administration issued an order on January 14 banning all social media sites from preventing misinformation and rumours.

The police spokesperson said, taking the misuse of social media seriously, the cyber police station in Kashmir has registered a case against various social media users. Who have defied government orders and misused social media platforms.

He further said that there are frequent reports of misuse of social media sites by miscreants. They are using it to promote separatist ideology and promote illegal activities. The spokesperson said that social media is his “favourite tool” as it provides a large amount of anonymity to the user and also gives a broad reach.

He said that the FIR had registered after miscreants took cognizance of the social media posts using various ‘virtual private networks’ (VPNs). The spokesman said that the miscreants are spreading rumours regarding the current security situation in the Kashmir Valley.

He said that these posts are promoting the separatist ideology and glorifying terrorist acts and terrorists. Offensive material has also seized in this regard. This is the first FIR registered at the Cyber ​​Police Station (Kashmir area) in Srinagar after a government notification in this regard came into existence.

The government relaxed it after a 6-month internet ban in Jammu and Kashmir. But people can only see some websites and the government has banned social media. On February 14, the government had banned all social media sites by issuing orders in this regard. The government said that by spreading rumours through social media in the valley, separatist forces do not want to let the atmosphere recover.
