Friendship Day was start in the year 1958. It is said that a person was murdered on the first Sunday of August in the year 1958. A friend of the person who died in memory of his friend had committed suicide. Since then, the US government has decided to celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day.

Many stories related to Friendship Day are seen in the pages of history. Paraguayan doctor Raman Artemio is believed to have organized a dinner party on 20 July 1958, during which he thought of celebrating Friendship Day with his friends. Since then, Friendship Day started being celebrate all over the world.
