IIT Indore discovered new blood cancer drug.
IIT Indore has discovered a new drug for the treatment of blood cancer after 12 years of research. This drug will help people to fight cancer with less expense and without side effects. Its clinical trial is going to start soon at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. The drug is name asparaginase (M-aspar). This drug, discovered with the help of protein engineering, will be helpful in treating acute lymphoblastic leukemia (a type of blood cancer).
Leukemia is a type of blood cancer in which one-fourth of the victims are children. The patients prepared by the IITs recovering and coming back to the disease will also benefit from it. Patients are currently experiencing allergies and neurotoxicity due to asparagines currently being use to make medicines. This leads to increased hypersensitivity and toxicity to other organs including the pancreas, liver, and spleen. Asparaginase poisoning has a very bad effect on patients caught again by the disease.

Able to kill cancer cell
Prof. of the Department of Bioscience and Bio-Medical of IIT. According to Avinash Sonawane, M-Aspar drug can kill cancer cells. Toxicity is less due to being more stable. It is expect that this will reduce the cost of treatment and side effects.
Trial will be done on 25 people
For drugs, IIT Indore has tied up with the Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Center’s Advanced Center for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer and Mumbai-based Ipagen Biotech. Clinical trials of the drug will be here. In the first round of trials, 25 to 30 people will be tested for drug safety, tolerance etc. Presently the asparaginase drug being used is not easily found even after inclusion in the medicine required by the WHO.
