The IT Department officials on Tuesday (February 14, 2023) conducted a raids at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai.
As per the latest reports, the IT department is looking at documents related to the business operations of the company and those related to its Indian arm.
As part of a survey, the department only covers the business premises of a company and does not raid residences and other locations of its promoters or directors.
Meanwhile, Congress reacted to IT raids at BBC office by the IT department and called it an “undeclared emergency”.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also took a jibe at the Narendra Modi-led government and said, “Reports of Income Tax raid at BBC’s Delhi office. Wow, really? How unexpected.”
The BBC’s documentary on Prime Minister Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots has caused controversy, which has coincided with the survey operations there.

The government issued instructions last month for blocking numerous YouTube videos and Twitter posts that contained links to the divisive film. The Supreme Court then requested responses from the Centre and other parties on February 3 in response to the various petitions contesting its decision to halt the documentary.
The central government was required to produce original documents pertaining to its choice to obstruct the BBC documentary by the top court.
