South Korea’s leading automaker Kia India is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle in India soon. Kia currently sells only ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars in the country like Sonet, Seltos, Carnival and Carens. The company has already introduced its electric car EV6 in the global markets. According to reports, Kia will soon announce the launch of the EV6 in India as well. The company can currently sell the EV6 in India through the CBU (completely built unit) route.
When will launch?
The Kia EV6 GT is expected to be the brand’s first all-electric offering for the Indian market. This electric crossover car has now been seen during testing in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. The Kia EV6 GT variant is visible in the spy images of the car. According to reports, the Kia EV6 can be launched in India in the second half of this year. When launched, it will take on electric cars like the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 will also debut in India later this year.

Battery and range.
The top-spec EV6 GT variant gets a powerful battery pack of 77.4 kWh. This car is capable of generating maximum power of 320 bhp and peak torque of 605 Nm. The GT variant comes with a dual electric all-wheel drive system. According to the global certification, the Kia EV6 can cover a distance of 425 km on a single full charge. Kia has also promised that with the help of the ultra-fast charging system, the car can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
Platforms and variants.
The Kia EV6 electric SUV is based on the carmaker’s Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP) and is currently available for sale in European markets. In the global markets, Kia offers the EV6 in three variants – EV6, EV6 GT-Line and EV6 GT. They will be available with multiple drive configurations, including two battery variants for a range of more than 510 kms. The top version GT is only offered with a more powerful battery pack. The EV6 is available with two-wheel drive (2WD) and optionally all-wheel drive (AWS).
How much will the price be?
The price of Kia EV6 in European countries is around 45,000 euros. If Kia sells the EV6 in India via the CBU route, expect the electric car to cost around Rs 60 lakh.
