Omicron variant cases will increase in India, relief from infectiousness and recovery rate
Cases of Omicron infection may increase in India and the country will see a high positivity rate. However, like South Africa, most people will have a mild infection. Doctor Angelike Coetzee, who first identified the Omicron variant, has made such a claim. The chairperson of the ‘South Africa Medical Association’ also said that existing vaccines will certainly control the infection, but the risk for people who do not take the vaccine is 100 percent.
Omicron variant will spread less in people who have vaccinated or previously infected.
In a phone conversation with PTI, Dr. Coetzee said, ‘Omicron will spread less in people who have vaccinated or previously infected. Whereas those who do not take the vaccine will definitely do the work of spreading it. He said that the corona epidemic is not over yet and in the coming days it may also go to the endemic stage. Endemic is the stage when the virus or disease persists at some place. Dr. Coetzee disagrees with the opinion of experts who claim that Omicron is heading towards the end and is comparatively weaker than all variants of Corona.
Till Saturday, a total of 415 cases of Omicron infection have been reported in India.
According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, till Saturday, a total of 415 cases of Omicron infection have been reported in India, out of which 115 patients have recovered or migrated. Dr. Coetzee said that any virus that gets out of control is only a threat to mankind.
Omicron is not too dangerous given the current situation.
Regarding the behavior of the Omicron strain spreading all over the world, Dr. Coetzee said, the new virus is also attacking youth and children. Omicron is not very dangerous considering the current situation, but it can spread rapidly with high effectiveness rate. There are less severe cases in hospitals. This virus keeps itself alive by infecting humans. Children are also getting infected by this. Although the good thing is that they are also recovering within 5 to 6 days on an average.
Can an Omicron variant mutate again and change its behavior?
In response to this question, Dr. Coetzee said, ‘Yes, the new variant may become more dangerous by mutating in the future and it is also likely not to happen.’ The 61-year-old medical practitioner also emphasized on safety protocols such as wearing a mask, which is crucial in controlling the transmission of oomicrons.
