Which leaders protested?
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had raised questions on this decision of the central government.
He said that 18 year old girl and boy can sign contract, start business. PM can choose, MP can choose MLA. But can’t get married. They can have sex with mutual consent, can live in a live-in relationship. But cannot choose your life partner. This is ridiculous.
SP leader Abu Azmi had said that
Ever since I grew up, I am hearing that whenever someone dies in the family, he should be cremated immediately. Similarly, as soon as the girl grows up, she should get married. But now a girl cannot marry even at the age of 18. This means that at the age of 18 she may not understand, but at the age of 21 she will mature.
SP MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke:
Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke had also made objectionable remarks for girls, questioning the government’s decision. MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke had said that if the age of marriage of girls is increased, then girls will get more loafing opportunities. However, he later retracted from his statement. He said that was not the meaning of my statement.
