Ahead of Diwali, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has gifted Diwali to the citizens of the state. The Chief Minister has announced a huge cut in the rates of electricity used for domestic consumption. The new electricity rates have implemented in Punjab with immediate effect. Now up to 100 units in Punjab, only Rs 1.19 per unit will charged. From 101 to 300 units, the new rate has announced at Rs 4 per unit, which was Rs 7 earlier. At the same time, for domestic electricity consumption above 300 units, the rate of Rs 5 per unit will be charged. The Punjab government has cut every slab by Rs 3 per unit.

CM Charanjit Channi has given the gift of cheap electricity to the people of Punjab on the occasion of Diwali.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi said that people say that money is not saved by paying electricity bills. Channi claimed that this would be the lowest rate in the country. In this coming assembly session, all the three power agreements will reconsidered. The electricity we have bought today is 2.65 paise, today we are going to give the gift of Diwali to the people of Punjab. When we got people surveyed in Punjab, they said that we don’t want free electricity but cheap electricity.
Know the new rates
In domestic electricity up to 100 units, the rate in Punjab will be Rs 1.19 per unit. Earlier, Rs 7 per unit was available from 101 to 300 units, now people will get Rs 4 per unit and above 301 units, people will get electricity at the rate of Rs 5 per unit. At the same time, every slab of residential connection has reduced by Rs 3 per unit. After this reduction, now Punjab will have the cheapest electricity in the entire country on residential connections. At the same time, after reducing the electricity prices, the Punjab government will have an additional burden of Rs 3316 crore. Let us tell you that there are a total of 72 lakh consumers in Punjab. Out of which 95 percent of the consumers will covered in it. Only 5 percent of the people will not come under its purview.
